Privacy policy

ChatterPoll is run by ConferED LLC. This page explains what we collect, why, who else sees it, and what you can do about it. Last updated November 7, 2026.

Two kinds of people use ChatterPoll

Organizers create polls and read results. Participants answer them. Most of what follows is different for each, so we say which one we mean.

For the answers themselves, the organizer decides what is collected and is responsible for how they use it. ChatterPoll stores the answers for them and does not use them for anything else.

What participants give us

Answers. Your choices, any reason you pick, and any comment you type.
A private key in your browser. It lets you come back and change an answer. It is stored in your browser, and we keep only a scrambled copy of it. Clearing your browser data removes the key; your answers stay, but you can no longer edit them unless you saved a link.
Your email, only if the poll asks for it or you choose to give it. A poll set to “email first” or “invited only” shows the organizer which email each answer came from, and says so before you start. On other polls you can choose “Keep my answers” and we email you a private link. In that case the organizer does not see your email.
How you got there. If you arrived from a shared link, we note the label on that link so the organizer can see which channels bring people in. This is a count, not a profile of you.

On an anonymous poll we do not ask for an email and the organizer cannot tell who you are.

What organizers give us

Your email address and name, to sign you in and show your name to your teammates.
Your organization’s name, initials and color, and the polls, questions and invitation lists you create.
Email addresses you invite. We send each one an invitation and remember that it was sent so you do not invite the same person twice.
Billing details. Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card number goes to Stripe and never reaches us. We keep your plan, the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, and the amount and date of each purchase.
The browser or device name sent when you sign in, stored with your session.

Cookies and similar storage

We set one cookie, a sign-in cookie called cp_session for organizers and for participants who sign in to see their own answers. It is strictly needed to keep you signed in, lasts 30 days, and is not readable by scripts on the page.

Participants get a key in the browser’s local storage, described above. There are no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers and no analytics scripts on chatterpoll.com or in the app.

How we use it

To run the service: collect and show answers, send sign-in links and invitations, enforce your plan’s limits.
To protect it: rate-limit requests and block abuse. We keep a scrambled copy of your IP address, and of an email address when someone asks for a sign-in link, in a counter that is cleared within about an hour. It is never stored with your answers.
To get paid and keep accounting records.
To reply when you write to us.

We do not sell personal information, we do not use answers to train models, and we do not show advertising.

Who else handles your data

We use a small number of providers who process data for us and only for that purpose:

Supabase hosts our database.
Resend delivers our email, so it sees the recipient address and the message.
Stripe processes payments and keeps billing records.
Our web hosting provider serves the sites and sees ordinary request logs.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect people from harm. If ConferED LLC is ever sold or merged, this data goes with it and this policy keeps applying until you are told otherwise.

Who can see answers

Members of the organization that owns the poll can see its results, according to their role. Participants can see their own answers, and the results too when the organizer has allowed it. Organizers can download results as a CSV; that file includes an email column only for polls that collect emails.

How long we keep it

Answers and polls: until the organizer deletes the poll or the account is deleted. Deleting a poll removes its answers, invitations and results.
Sign-in links: expire after 30 minutes and work once.
Sessions: 30 days, or until you sign out.
Email records: a log of what we sent and to whom, kept to apply monthly sending limits. When a poll is deleted the log stops pointing to it, and records of sign-in emails are removed when the person’s account is deleted.
Purchase records: kept as long as tax and accounting rules require, even after an account is deleted.
Backups: deleted data may remain in database backups until they expire on our provider’s schedule. It is not restored into the service.

Your choices

Signed in, you can do these yourself from Profile: download everything we hold about you as one file, or delete your account. Deleting removes your sign-in, your answers on other people’s polls, and any organization where you are the only member, along with its polls. If you are the only owner of an organization that has other members, you need to hand over ownership first.

You can also ask us to correct, export or delete your information, or object to how we use it, at partnerships@confered.com. We answer within 30 days. If you answered a poll without an account and cannot sign in, write to us from the address you gave and tell us which poll. For anonymous polls we cannot find your answers, because we do not know which ones are yours.

If you live in the EU, UK or California you have the rights these laws describe, including access, correction, deletion, portability and the right to complain to your data protection authority. We treat everyone to the same standard.

Children and schools

ChatterPoll is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. Schools and universities that run polls with students are responsible for having the right to do so, including any parental consent or notice their rules require. Tell us if a child’s information was collected by mistake and we will delete it.

Security

Connections are encrypted. Sign-in links and participant keys are stored only as hashes. Database tables are locked against the database provider’s public interface, so data is reachable only through our service, and what each person can see is limited by their role. No system is perfectly safe; if something happens that affects your information, we will tell you and the affected organizers promptly.

Where it is processed

ConferED LLC is based in the United States and the service is run from there. By using ChatterPoll you understand your information is processed in the United States and by the providers above, where laws may differ from your own.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and email organizers before it takes effect.
